I. INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION

Resentment is often defined as chronic anger. However, it is more than this. It is a ruminating quality of turning events over in your mind over and over until it becomes a type of obsession. In this regard, it is a type of judgmental quality or hatred.

The Latin root of the word resentment (re-sentir) means to feel over and over again.

Resentment is the primary spiritual disease of our time. This article explores its cause, symptoms and correction.

RESENTMENT KILLS

Discussing and understanding resentment is extremely helpful for health and development because it stops development and kills the body.

The usual disease of resentment is cancer. The reasons for this are complex and beyond the scope of this article at this time. However, they involve the mineral copper and often cadmium. Both of these minerals are indicators of cancer in the body.

FEAR-BASED NOT LOVE-BASED

At one level, there are only two emotions – love and fear. Resentment is based upon fear, as we will explain later in this article. Its correction is to move to a love-based personality.

II. REVERSAL OF LOVE

REVERSAL

Resentment is a complete reversal of the way human beings are supposed to live. We are supposed to continually extend a type of love that flows into the body through the top of the head to the seventh energy center.

When this is blocked, as it is in many people, one can no longer receive enough of this love and one goes into a state of fear. Fear is simply a lack of enough love flowing into the body.

Fear then takes over the body, but it is very unpleasant to live this way. As a result, one begins to move through several stages that end in resentment, as explained below.

STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT OF RESENTMENT

First one moves into a state of fear. This often occurs during early childhood. However, living in a state of fear is very unpleasant and disturbing to the ego.

The next stage is anger. Anger is always fear that one projects. Remember, at all times one either extends the love of the Creator or one projects fear.

Next the anger becomes chronic and quite important to the ego. This chronic anger is resentment.

SYMPTOMS OF RESENTMENT

These include a lack of happiness and joy in one's life, regardless of one's circumstances. The body also often ages prematurely and one can develop many other physical and emotional symptoms, as well.

III. ENDING RESENTMENT

NOTICING RESENTMENT IN YOURSELF

This is always the first step in getting rid of resentment. Learn to notice the tendency to become resentful. It can occur any time things do not go well or you believe another has wronged you.

REALIZE THAT RESENTMENT IS BAD, NOT NEEDED, NOT HELPFUL AND IS A KILLER

This is a very important stage of understanding and overcoming resentment. You must not defend or make excuses for your resentment. Just realize it is a 'bad habit' that hurts only you and no one else. It actually accomplishes nothing except perhaps to give your wounded ego a feeling of superiority.

REMEMBER TO LET GO OF RESENTMENT OVER AND OVER UNTIL THIS IS YOUR NEW HABIT

This is the final and very important step. Just keep releasing resentment whenever you see it. It helps to remember that the underlying problem is fear. The ego mind projects this fear as anger at others and the anger becomes chronic as resentment.

THE PULLING DOWN PROCEDURE

This simple mental exercise will improve the seventh energy center and bring in more of the Creator's love to the body. It may seem too simple, but done repeatedly each day it is very powerful. For details, read The Pulling Down Procedure.

THE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The pulling down procedure is one part of the development program. The entire program, especially eating well, getting enough rest, living a healthy lifestyle and doing the healing procedures, can also help reduce resentment because you will feel better and think more clearly.

GRATITUDE

Another approach is to focus on gratitude. For example, let us say your bank makes a mistake that costs you money and wastes your time. You can focus on the error or you can focus on how much you appreciate your bank as a safe place to put your money.

LOVE, NOT FEAR

Another aspect or approach is to focus on love, not fear. Work on seeing each moment when you are not choosing love and are instead choosing to be in fear. Know that you can choose again for love.

This is real, although it might sound too simplistic. It matters not if you are tied down or imprisoned. You can still choose to have a loving attitude and not a fearful one. For more details, read The Real Self.

IV. OTHER TOPICS

OFTEN MIXED WITH A VICTIM MENTALITY OR SELF PITY

Resentment is part of a victim mentality. At one level, this is always a lie because we in fact choose to live and choose our lives.

Victim thinking is also very destructive of the body and mind. For details, read Victimhood and I Choose.

EFFECTS ON THE SODIUM/POTASSIUM RATIO

Resentment always lowers the sodium/potassium ratio in the hair tissue (not the blood). This is very important because the sodium/potassium ratio in the body tissues is one of the most important measures of health.

Lowering this ratio is very damaging to the body. This is a somewhat involved topic that we will expand upon in the future. For details, read The Sodium/Potassium Ratio.

RESENTMENT IS A LOSER'S WAY OF WINNING

Resentment is a way to feel superior to others whom you believe have wronged you. In this regard, it has a sweetness about it that many people like.

However, it is a loser's way to winning. It satisfies the ego but it does not build self-esteem or self-confidence. In fact, it lowers these.

WOMEN AND RESENTMENT

Resentment is more common among women than among men. One reason is that women are more prone to fear than are men simply because they are generally smaller and weaker.

Women also have a greater tendency to accumulate copper in their bodies than do most men.
