INTRODUCTION
Definitions. This
is a very common condition in which a person does not drink alcohol, and may
never have drank or abused alcohol.
However, the body produces alcohol due to the presence of excessive
yeast in the intestines. As a
result, one is literally slightly inebriated for most of the day and night.
The yeast is often candida albicans, but other species of yeast may be present, as
well. Recently, candida aureus has been
identified in some people.
The yeast in the intestines and elsewhere also produce other toxins
such as acetaldehyde and other chemicals.
These slowly poison the liver and damage the entire body.
When a person in this condition eats sweets, some of the sugar
ferments due to the presence of the yeast. The same can occur if one eats complex carbohydrates such as
bread, potatoes or rice. These
foods break down to sugar inside the body.
The fermentation of sugars causes the formation of alcohol inside the
body. As a result, the person
walks around slightly inebriated for much or all of the day.
People with this symptom crave sugar, fruit, juices or carbohydrates
such as starches. The reason is they like the feeling of
slight inebriation or relaxation that comes with the production of a small
quantity of alcohol in their intestines.
Confusing
names. This condition is also sometimes called the yeast syndrome or
SIBO (small
intestinal bacterial overgrowth) or intestinal dybiosis. Some books also call it problems with the
terrain, intestinal flora or the microbiome. These terms may have slightly different
meaning, but they all point to the same problem of improper intestinal flora.

SYMPTOMS OF YEAST OVERGROWTH
No
noticeable symptoms until one stops eating sweets and starches. Often, a person with this
condition feels quite well as long as he or she keeps eating some sweet foods
or starches every day.
Symptoms arise when the person does not eat these foods for a day or,
at times, just for a few hours.
Then one may feel anxious, irritable, depressed, very angry or
shaky. Some experience headaches,
tremors and other signs of typical alcohol withdrawal.
Bringing
up issues. The alcohol production due to eating sweets
also blocks awareness of unpleasant memories, and these are likely to surface
if one ceases to eat the alcohol-producing foods – anything sweet or
starchy.
Mild alcohol intoxication. At
times, one may have symptoms are those of mild alcohol intoxication. Common symptoms are brain fog, memory
or cognitive impairment, fatigue or weakness.
Addiction.
Often, the person becomes somewhat addicted to carbohydrates such as bread,
potatoes, or rice. One may also be
addicted to sweet foods such as fruit, sweet juices, candy, cookies, ice cream,
chocolate, soda pop or other sugary foods.
The addiction can be of varying degrees. However, in all cases, if one stops eating the addictive
foods, one usually feels irritable, perhaps angry, and out of sorts as the body
suddenly stops producing alcohol.
Lying. One
may take on behaviors similar to addicts such as lying about oneÕs diet, lying
about oneÕs weight, or about other things.
Weight
gain. Most with this condition weight gain and can become
obese. This, in turn, can lead to
joint problems, diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, cancer and other
physical health problems.
A doughy or bloated appearance. These
people often look somewhat bloated, puffed up or doughy, similar to a loaf of
bread that has risen due to the yeast in the bread.
A slightly sour odor. A lot
of yeast in the body causes a somewhat sour odor.
Loss of mental sharpness. The
presence of alcohol in the bloodstream dulls the mind to a degree, impairing
mental sharpness and sometimes impairing memory and other cognitive activities.
Combinations.
Slight inebriation often combines with other mineral
deficiency and toxicity symptoms such as Yin
Disease, Hypoglycemia, Leaky Gut Syndrome, Adrenal Insufficiency, Hypothyroidism Or HashimotoÕs Disease and Diabetes.
This will complicate the symptom picture. Fortunately, if one balances the body properly, all of these
conditions usually slowly disappear.
III.
CAUSES FOR YEAST OVERGROWTH
YIN DISEASE. An
underlying cause in almost all cases is that the body is too ÒcoldÓ or
yin. We call this yin
disease. For details, read Yin Disease.
COPPER IMBALANCE.
Commonly, one has a deficiency of bioavailable
copper. Copper, in the proper valence
and compounds, is one of the bodyÕs natural yeast killers. In fact, copper compounds are used in
swimming pools, hot tubs and on agricultural crops to control yeast growth.
When copper is out of balance, the body cannot kill off yeasts such as
candida albicans. As a result, the yeasts build up in the
body, particularly in the intestines.
MEDICAL DRUG USE. This is a major
cause of yeast syndrome! For
example:
Antibiotics. Many
people experience yeast problems after taking antibiotics. This occurs because:
- Some antibiotics upset copper metabolism because they are copper chelators.
- Many antibiotic drugs kill off the normal intestinal flora that control the growth of yeasts and other abnormal
intestinal organisms.
- Antibiotic drugs are yin or ÔcoldÕ in their quality. They subtly poison the liver, kidneys
and other organs of the body and make the body more yin.
Antibiotics
are not benign drugs. They are all toxic for the body. They are also
tremendously overused by medical personnel. Medical and even natural healing schools do not teach
students these facts and often do not teach students that much safer natural
alternatives exist such as vitamin A, vitamin C, colloidal silver, and herbs
such as echinacea. Antibiotics should be used only as a last resort if natural methods of
controlling infections are not effective.
Residues
of antibiotics can remain in the body for decades, causing yeast and other
problems!
Corticosteroid drugs such as Prednisone. These
drugs inhibit the immune response and prevent the body from killing yeast
organisms. These drugs are also
greatly overused because healing professionals do not know about much safer
alternatives to these drugs that are available in many instances. Corticosteroid drugs should be used
only rarely and as a last resort.
Hormones.
Hormones such as estrogens, progesterone, testosterone, and even thyroid
replacement hormones are all very yin and toxic. They damage the liver and other organs and prevent the body
from killing yeast organisms. These
drugs are also greatly overused and should only be used if the bodyÕs
hormone-producing organs have been destroyed by surgery or radiation.
Other drugs, herbs and vitamin supplements. Many,
if not most medical drugs damage the liver and other organs in ways that impair
the bodyÕs ability to control yeast.
Most herbs and nutritional supplements are also yin and many herbs are
somewhat toxic. They can easily
make the body more yin.
EATING INCORRECTLY. Among the worst dietary errors of most
people are:
- Eating
a diet that is too low in cooked vegetables. This is the main problem
with most people. Only cooked
vegetables can provide dozens of trace minerals and hundreds of other nutrients
the body needs.
Salads
are not acceptable because human
beings cannot break down tough vegetable fibers well enough to extract enough
minerals from raw vegetables.
Stir-fried,
sautŽed or otherwise lightly cooked vegetables are not acceptable. Any
vegetables that are crunchy or al dente have too much intact tough fiber for
our bodies to extract enough minerals from them.
Frozen
vegetables are also not acceptable, except for frozen meats. Most
frozen vegetables are sprayed with chelators to
preserve their color. These
chemicals work by removing minerals from the food. Chemicals sprayed on frozen foods need not be listed on the
label.
Overcooking
vegetables is not acceptable. Vegetables need to be cooked until they
are soft, but they should retain most of their color. This requires 2.5 to 3 minutes in a pressure cooker or about
20 to 40 minutes in a steamer, depending upon how vegetables are chopped
up. If vegetables turn grey or
fall apart they are overcooked and some mineral compounds are destroyed,
ruining the nutritional value of the vegetables.
- Eating
sweets of all kinds, including fruit, juices and smoothies. This includes products such as almond milk, soy milk, hemp milk and regular cows milk.
- Other
errors are eating any refined flour, refined rice or other mineral-depleted
foods.
- Eating
yin foods. This includes eating fruit, fruit juices, most raw
food, refined or mineral-deficient food, and the use of alcohol or recreational
drugs.
-
Overeating on simple or complex carbohydrate foods. Simple
carbohydrates include all sugary foods, as discussed above. Complex carbohydrates include grains,
dried beans, and starch vegetables such as sweet potatoes and yams.
-
Another common error is eating food that contains chemical additives. All food additives such as
preservatives, dough conditioners, flavors, colors, texture chemicals and
hundreds of others that should not be permitted to be used in foods are
somewhat yin and thus toxic.
Most food
also contains residues of pesticides and insecticides used on crops and used on
livestock. These are all toxic chemicals that
damage our bodies and should not be in our food. Organic food and grass-fed meats and dairy products are
better and are the only kind of foods that one should eat.
GMO (genetically modified organisms) and heavily hybridized foods such
as wheat and sadly, rice and lentils, are also less nutritious today and often
somewhat toxic. These altered
foods should not be permitted, but today are widely used.
AN
EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM
Slight inebriation affects millions of people around the world. It is a major cause of obesity, brain
fog and all the physical ailments that go with obesity.
Unfortunately, medical and naturopathic personnel often do not
recognize it so it continues. They
may suggest a better diet, but since the person is addicted to carbohydrates,
the person often cannot or will not follow the diet.
IV.
CORRECTION
To get over this problem requires correcting body chemistry to end the
excessive fermentation of sugars inside the body. This is not a simple process, in most cases. It usually requires a complete
development program. For details,
read Introduction To Development Programs. To find a Helper to begin a program, go
to the Helper Referral
Page.
Medical drugs, herbs, or symptomatic vitamin and mineral therapies are
usually not sufficient to correct many and deep imbalances related to copper,
zinc, manganese and often many other minerals that contribute to the problem.
Understanding the problem is also very helpful in order to make fast
progress.
Dietary
solutions. The high incidence of this problem is
one reason more and more people are adopting diets such as Paleo,
keto, Weston Price, primal, GAPS, gluten-free and
other low-carbohydrate diets. This
is a step in the right direction.
However, we find that just following one of these diets is not enough
to rebuild body chemistry. In our
experience, all the diets above are too low in well-cooked vegetables. These are needed to supply many
nutrients to the body.
Nutritional
supplements. In addition, everyone needs targeted
nutritional supplements to replenish nutrients such as calcium, magnesium,
zinc, chromium, iodine, selenium and perhaps others. We use supplements to also balance the oxidation rate and the
sodium/potassium ratio on a properly performed and correctly interpreted hair
mineral analysis.
Detoxification
procedures. Also, we find most people need certain
detoxification and healing procedures in order to rebalance and detoxify the
body adequately. These are
described in the Procedures Handbook.
Only with this combination can many people make a full recovery. It is more work, but it brings many,
many other benefits besides healing the carbohydrate addiction. For details, read Introduction To Development.
