This is one of the most basic questions to ask yourself. Below are some answers.
Some of the answers are rather negative. I have separated these out, because these are commonly taught in school and in the mass media. I want you, the reader, to be aware of their falseness.
THE FALSE ANSWERS
1. LIFE IS STUPID AND MEANINGLESS.
This is a common attitude today. It has even been given a fancy name - existentialism. It is drummed into people’s heads every night on the news that shows people murdered or smashed up in their cars for no apparent reason.
In fact, news agencies seem to thrive on these acts of violence, even though they are statistically rare. Most often, life is good, babies are born, people graduate from school and fall in love. However, you would not know this based on the reporting.
As I watch or listen to the news, I often joke to myself, “They really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find that horror story”.
2. LIFE IS HOPELESS
This is another lie that is often taught in high school and colleges. The environmentalists specialize in this one. If global warming doesn’t kill us, then global cooling or something else will.
Many children learn that there will always be someone smarter, more beautiful, or a better athlete or musician, so why try!
And you could be homeless, too. So watch out!
Funny how one volcanic eruption can put more carbon into the air in a few hours than all the cars combined in a hundred years – and we’re still alive!
Many people in Canada, North Dakota and other cold places would gladly welcome global warming, but somehow they don’t figure into the climate change equation.
3. LIFE IS JUST AN ACCIDENT
This lie is also taught in school, often disguised as “science”. Planet earth, they say, just happens to be far enough from the sun so we don’t burn up, but not so far away that we freeze.
Maybe so, or perhaps it was set up that way by beings far in advance of us in terms of their technology. They have visited earth and left plenty of evidence, but the dictators don’t want you to know about it, so it is kept secret.
4. HUMANS ARE JUST GLORIFIED APES
In fact, they say, monkeys are superior to people because monkeys don’t drive cars that cause climate change. Given a choice, they say, we should save the monkeys and let the people die.
The “educators” also teach that there is no soul, another lie.
5. LIFE IS ABOUT VICTIMHOOD AND WE ARE ALL VICTIMS
This is the rallying cry of the Democrat Party in America these days. It is a tempting theme because it gives people an excuse to do nothing, to be lazy and angry, and to hate lots of people who are “victimizing” them.
The victim theme is one of the most paralyzing of lies.
6. SUBSERVIENCE IS GOOD.
This is also taught widely in the public schools, in some churches, and elsewhere. It is the idea that you don’t really want to be in charge of your life. Let the licensed professionals run things.
In fact, they say, you are not capable of making wise decisions about your own life, so it is best for the government to decide about your health care, your welfare, your education, your gun rights, and more.
7. LIFE IS ABOUT STRUGGLE and CONFLICT.
This is the dominant theme in many college classes today. For example, in economics one learns about Marxism. Marx believed that life is a struggle between the economic classes of people, whom he called the capitalists versus the proletariat. He was wrong, but they keep on teaching it.
Political classes teach that power is everything, and it is all a conflict or clash of ideologies between communism, socialism, Marxism and capitalism. This is all incorrect, too.
Christians sometimes focus on the struggle with the devil or Satan, although the Bible says not to do this.
Medicine believes that life is a war with disease, old age and death. It is with their toxic methods, but not when you understand that disease is just a symptom of a system out of balance.
LIFE IS ABOUT KARMA
This is a common Eastern or Oriental viewpoint. Life is about getting rid of our negative “blemishes” or karma, as it is called in the Sanskrit language.
THE REAL ANSWERS
LIFE IS ABOUT LOVE
You are the extension and expression of God’s love into this world of form. You are nothing less than this, even if you are sick, old, ugly or disabled. That is the love philosophy and it is true.
Love is not about getting things. Love is about who you are, why you are here, and how to live. Just keep extending God’s love to others and you fulfill your role.
This does not mean to go along with the wishes of other people. Nor does it mean to even be friendly with everyone. However, you can wish them all well from a distance, if needed. You can also radiate a little of that love into the world to make it a better place.
You are also loved more than you can imagine by your Creator, or you would not be here. That is also true. Some Christians know this truth, and they spread it. Most people do not understand it so they think Christians are strange, when they are just echoing the truth of who we are.
LIFE IS ABOUT GRACE
Grace is the unearned love of God for us. It is real, and it is all around you. Start accepting this idea, and your life will improve.
LIFE IS ABOUT DEVELOPMENT
Development is not just growing the body, or growing your family, your career, or your role in your church.
Here development means the growth of the subtle human energy fields or Aura, and the development of the Merkabah. As a result, the body heals deeply. One also develops unusual abilities that bring about a longer, healthier and happier life.
LIFE IS ABOUT FREEDOM
This is an American idea. In this “free” country, one has more freedom to do as one pleases, provided no harm is done to others. As a result, you make of life what you want.
You can be rich if you work hard, and you can become smart if you read and think a lot. You can also goof off if that is your desire. Americans say that God gives us “free will” and by our thoughts, words and deeds, we make of life what we desire.
IMPLICATIONS OF ONE’S PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE
Ideas have consequences. Negative ideas always lead to destructive behavior. After all, one might as well do whatever one wants, because life stinks and nothing matters, anyway. As a result, some turn to drugs, and others commit murder, rape or suicide - all based on this philosophy of life.
On the other hand, true philosophy inspires and uplifts, keeps one going when the going gets rough, and makes one a better human being at the same time. It is all up to you!
According to very ancient lore, the true purposes of the physical life are:
1. To undo mistakes we have made in the past.
2. To do good works and help people.
3. To enjoy friends.
EARTH IS A VACATION
I once attended a talk in which the speaker said that living on earth is like a vacation. We choose, he said, what sort of vacation it will be. Will it be a comedy, a drama, an adventure, a tragedy, or something else? I found this idea interesting.
THE BODY IS A COMMUNICATION DEVICE
This idea is from the tapes by Mark Hammer sold by the Shanti Christo Foundation. The only question, he suggested, is what do you want to communicate with your life?
Some would say that life is all about increasing your awareness. As one does this, life becomes easier because you will make much better decisions. this involves all areas of life, including health, friendships and relationships, money, work or career, and more.
