High-dose
niacin therapy means taking more than about 120 mg of niacin daily. It is used by some physicians and
others to dilate the pores when doing sauna therapy. The Ron Hubbard Clear program, for example, uses high-dose
niacin. It is also used by
holistic and orthomolecular and mega-dose physicians for some types of
schizophrenia and perhaps other disorders.
This
short article is basically an alert that in recent days we have found that high
doses of niacin always build up in the liver. This applies to all types of niacin, not just the
time-release niacin, which may be the worst.
Not
only is the high-dose niacin toxic, but it is not easy to remove from the
liver. Also, it seems to slow
other liver detoxification. So for
all these reasons, I do not advise high-dose niacin therapy for any reason at
all.
