This article discusses the basic causes of many sexual problems, and their correction using nutritional balancing science.  These conditions include low libido, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, sexual fluid craving, vaginal dryness and pain on intercourse.  For information about masturbation, please read Masturbation on this site.

SUMMARY OF VARIOUS SEXUAL CONDITIONS

1. SEXUAL FLUID CRAVING AS A CAUSE FOR SEXUAL ADDICTION.  This is a very important topic today, although it has attracted little medical attention. This condition can affect men, as well.  It slowly goes away when one goes on a nutritional balancing program.  For more on this topic, please read Sexual Fluid Craving on this website.

2. LOW LIBIDO. This is extremely common.  The main cause, in both men and women, is general nutritional depletion of the body.  When the body is tired, often sexual desire just disappears.  As the body is brought into balance and energy returns, normal sexual interest usually returns with it.

3. ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION.  This used to be called impotence.  It is the inability to sustain an erection of the penis.  It is mainly due to lowered vitality and low energy production in the cells, and this is usually quite simple to reverse.  It usually responds very well to a nutritional balancing program.

4. PREMATURE EJACULATION.  This problem also  goes away as one radically improves oneÕs health with a nutritional balancing program.

BASIC CAUSES FOR SEXUAL PROBLEMS

1. LOW ENERGY AND SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION

Especially as we age, oneÕs adaptive energy level declines.  An early sign is often reduced sexual desire and/or impotence or erectile dysfunction in men.  Women may also lose all interest in sex.

Sex is not essential, and when biochemical energy production declines, sexual function diminishes or may cease altogether.            This needs to be understood clearly, so that one does not believe it indicates a lack of love or caring.  It is simply a physical condition, in many cases.

Low adaptive energy can be corrected in almost all cases with a nutritional balancing program.  Age may be a factor, but it happens in young people as well as older ones.  Here are just a few ways that low energy is indicated on a properly performed hair mineral test:

              1. A slow oxidation rate.  This reduces energy output of the body tremendously.  It is associated with sluggish thyroid and sluggish adrenal glandular activity.  It is not so easy to measure on blood or urine tests from a standard lab or doctor.  To read more, click on Fast and Slow Oxidation.

While this may sound complex, an oxidation rate that is too fast can also cause reduced energy production.

              2. Four low electrolytes pattern.  This pattern, now common on hair mineral analyses, is associated with even lower energy production than slow oxidation.  It is also very difficult or impossible to identify with regular medical tests, or with nutritional or other testing methods.  In fact, the hair mineral test is the only way I know of to identify it.  It took years of research to figure out this problem and what to do about it.  To read more about it, click on Four low electrolytes.

              3. Excesssive toxic metals. These include high levels of cadmium, in particular, or arsenic, lead, nickel, copper or mercury.  These are also difficult to identify with most types of testing, including blood or even  urine challenge tests with chelating agents such as EDTA or DMPS.  The reason is that the toxic metals are often hidden deep within the bodyÕs tissues and organs.  Often, the only indicator may be what we call a poor eliminator pattern on a hair mineral test.  This is a very low reading for the mineral.  For much more on this important topic, read Poor Eliminator Pattern on this website.  Also, read Toxic Metals.

              4. Low sodium/potassium ratio.  Other imbalances related to energy problems include a ratio of sodium to potassium less than about 2:1, four high electrolytes in some cases and other patterns of imbalance on a hair mineral test, on occasion.

CORRECTION

A nutritional balancing program can help reverse all these imbalances, often within a few months to a year if the pattern is more chronic.  I feel this is far superior than using stimulants such as ginseng, yohimbe, Viagra or other unnatural stimulating drugs or supplements.  The natural approach also improves general health as well.

ZINC, COPPER AND POTENCY

Sexual potency, particularly in men, has much to do with zinc and its availability to the body.  Low zinc impairs prostate function, for example.  This alone can affect sexual desire and sexual potency.  Zinc is critical for male sexuality, although it is also needed in women as well.

Zinc is mainly found in red meats, and to some extent in all poultry and eggs as well.  It is not found much in vegetables or fruit or grains of any kind.  Also, stress depletes zinc rapidly, causing hidden deficiencies in many people.  Alcohol and smoking cigarettes also tend to lower zinc levels by introducing toxic metals that compete with zinc.

Copper excess also mimics zinc deficiency and this is common today.  Copper IUDs and birth control pills and patches elevate copper, for example, and can lead to lack of interest in sex in women.

Copper has profound effects on the female and male reproductive system.  See the article, Copper Toxicity Syndrome.

Cadmium, mercury and lead can also lodge in the sexual glands and replace zinc in critical enzyme binding sites, causing sexual difficulties.  This occurs more and more as people age in most cases.

THE CALCIUM SHELL, NUMBNESS AND NERVOUS SYSTEM DEPRESSION

Some people with sexual imbalances have a calcium shell pattern on a hair tissue mineral analysis.  This is a hair calcium level above about 165 mg%.  The higher the reading above this level is, the more severe the pattern.  This pattern is associated with reduced energy, copper toxicity, and literal depression of the nervous system.  This occurs because calcium stabilizes the cell membranes and tends to reduce cell permeability, decreasing the responsiveness of the nervous system in general.

This can cause numbness in the body and less sexual responsiveness in some cases.  In other cases, the person wants to feel pleasure and will seek out more sex and become promiscuous or engage in kinky or extreme sexual practices in order to feel more pleasure from sex.  This pattern needs to be researched more in relation to sexual imbalances.

HORMONE IMBALANCES AND SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION

Sex hormone dysfunctions are another cause of erectile and other sexual disorders in some cases.  Testicular activity in men, as well as sex hormone production in women, are closely linked to the function of the adrenal and thyroid glands.  The testicles and ovaries in women produce steroid hormones, but so do the adrenals.

Some physicians are quick to recommend the use of replacement hormones such as testosterone and estrogen for sexual problems.  However, nutritional balancing science rarely if ever needs to use bio-identical or natural hormone replacement.            Hormones are not supposed to be taken orally.  Nutritional balancing is much safer and basically improves the bodyÕs own ability to make the hormones.  This is a far more gentle and safe solution.  For more on this topic, read Hormone Replacement Therapy.

By correcting the causes, the hormone imbalances can improve and with it, sexual problems often abate, though it may take a little longer than just taking a hormone pill.

ARTERIOSCLEROSIS AND SEXUAL FUNCTION

Another cause for ED and possibly low sexual desire in men and women involves narrowing of the arteries going to the genital organs.  Here are the causes we identify and correct using a hair mineral analysis.

            1. Hardening of the arteries leading to the genital area.  Reasons for this include zinc deficiency, copper excess, elevated levels of calcium, cadmium, mercury or the presence of other toxic metals.

Other causes of hardening of the arteries are deficiencies of other common minerals such as manganese, copper, occasionally, selenium and others. Vitamin deficiencies may also play a role in some cases.  To read more about hardening of the arteries, read Cardiovascular Disease.

            2. Stress can cause the arteries to tighten up, reducing blood supply to the penis.  Reduction of stress is often extremely helpful for some sexual dysfunctions such as ED.  More rest, a relaxing environment and anything else that reduces stress is superb.

            3. Excess sympathetic nervous system activity is another cause in a few cases.  It can cause arterial narrowing and spasm.  This restricts the blood supply to the pelvic organs.  Read about this in Autonomic Nervous System Imbalances.

MEDICATIONS AND SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION

A growing cause for sexual dysfunction is the use of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.  Common ones that interfere with sexual desire or cause ED include most high blood pressure medications and some anti-histamines.  Other ones include heart medications, anti-depressants, sedatives and perhaps others.  Always consider this cause if sexual desire or ED are problematic.

Recreational drugs and alcohol use also may interfere with sexual function, although for a few people a little helps by relaxing the body.  However, all drugs interfere with nutrients and also may have depressing effects on the brain and nerve centers that affect sexual activity.

ILLNESSES THAT AFFECT SEXUAL FUNCTION

A number of ailments affect sexual desire and potency as well.  Among the best known are diabetes and heart disease because these affect the arteries.  Others, however, that may be important are chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, other emotional disorders such as panic attacks and others.  Nutritional balancing science is excellent to reverse many of these conditions, including most cardiovascular disease and even long-standing diabetes provided a person will follow a program carefully.

PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EMOTIONAL ASPECTS

Medical science is well aware that emotional and psychological factors can cause ED, low sexual desire, painful erections, painful intercourse and every other sexual problem.

Conflicts of many kinds often come to the surface during sexual activity, particularly if sex was portrayed as unclean or sinful when one was young.

Conflicts with partners also commonly play a role in women, especially.  Hidden or buried anger, resentment, guilt and other feelings can all prevent sexual pleasure and cause severe physical symptoms in some people.

Some therapists and natural healing methods may help understanding and resolving these conflicts.  However, always consider physical and biochemical causes first, as these may be simpler to correct.  Also, if they are not corrected, the psychological therapies will be less effective, if they are effective at all.

SPIRITUAL FACTORS INFLUENCING SEX

            1. The need to move beyond the physical.  An important spiritual factor that may be important in some people is the need of the spirit or soul to move beyond physical pleasure and enjoyment.  This may be needed in order to experience pleasures of the mind or even move into a more religious mode of living.

This may seem odd.  However, at times it is important that a person move beyond the physical or animal plane of existence and experience life at other levels.

Spiritual yearning for union with God, rather than union sexually, is where everyone is headed.  Sometimes loss of interest in sex or other ÒproblemsÓ really just signal a subconscious desire and need to move to another level of yearning and joining with others.

This may also signal a need to move from Òregular sexÓ to what I call Deep Loving Relationships and Etheric Blending.  Read these articles and others on relationships on this website to learn about these more advanced aspects of sexuality.

            2. Sexual misinformation. Some people think sex is necessary and important, and any lack thereof means their marriage or relationship is bad, or that they are not loved, and more.  This is totally false.  It is promoted by the media, at times, and by many liberal-leaning and progressive ÒauthoritiesÓ.  It is simply incorrect.

Anyone knows this if one thinks carefully about it.  Sex is just one expression of love, but certainly not the only one and, at times, not really that important.  So misconceptions about sex need to be cleared up in some cases and then partners can relax and be very happy with hugging, kissing or just talking with each instead of feeling they need to have intercourse on a regular basis.  This would save many marriages and relationships.  Having said this, I believe that if couples would focus on their health more, they would be far more inclined to have more healthy sexual lives.  Read How To Be More Sexy for more on this topic.
