PANDAS stands for pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections. PANDAS is basically the presence of certain disorders in children that arise or worsen a lot after a group A beta-hemolytic streptococcal infection. The symptoms worsen overnight when the child has a strep infection. Then they slowly fade away until the child has another strep infection, when the cycle starts all over again.
The symptoms of PANDAS mainly include Tourette’s syndrome, tics and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, the child may also have separation anxiety, attention deficit problems, sleep disturbances, bed-wetting, motor disturbances, joint pains and mood changes such as irritability, fear or depression.
THE CAUSE OF PANDAS
Conventional medicine does not know the cause of PANDAS. They speculate that it might be an auto-immune reaction. This means that for some reason after a streptococcus infection, the presence of certain antibodies cause the body to basically attack itself, in this case in areas such as the basal ganglia of the brain, where motor coordination is centered. However, this is all rather speculative.
However, mineral analysis research indicates that all of the children with PANDAS, so far, have an impaired immune response. Reasons for the immune response problem are mainly the presence of excessive toxic metals and nutrient deficiencies. Once the nutritional imbalance are corrected, the PANDAS condition goes away permanently.
MEDICAL TREATMENT OF PANDAS
This is also somewhat controversial. Most children are put on long-term antibiotic therapy, which is unfortunately quite toxic. They may also receive anti-depressant drugs and other drugs for the tic disorder or others. Other therapies are more experimental.
NUTRITIONAL BALANCING AND PANDAS
So far, all children with PANDAS have responded perfectly to a complete nutritional balancing program with complete healing of the condition. This may occur because this program:
1. Improves the sodium/potassium ratio in the tissues. This allows the body to fight off strep infections much more effectively.
2. Improves the functioning of the immune response. This occurs in many other organs from the intestines to the thymus gland and elsewhere.
3. Greatly strengthens the entire body chemistry. This helps the child to avoid future strep infections, or minimizing their extent in the body, should they occur.
4. Many other subtle benefits. These include the removal of toxic metals, toxic chemicals, reducing inflammation throughout the body, and renourishing the body and brain.
