I. INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION

Mushrooms are a group of large, fungal organisms, many of which live on dying trees. They do not require sunlight and they do not produce sugars from photosynthesis, as do all other plants.

We recommend avoiding mushrooms. They are not a necessary food for health and development, and they have a number of problems that are explained below.

HEALTH BENEFITS

Mushrooms contain some nutrients and a few mushrooms are used as anti-cancer remedies.

II. PROBLEMS WITH MUSHROOMS

YIN

Mushrooms are fungi. All fungi are very cold or yin in macrobiotic terminology and in Chinese medicine.

Also, mushrooms are the fruit of the plant. This is the most yin part of the plant, so it is double trouble!

In addition, mushrooms grow very fast. This is another yin quality.

The physics quality called yin is not used in Western medicine. However, it is an ancient healing concept in the Greek and Oriental medical traditions that we find to be very important. It should not be overlooked.

All bodies today are already too yin due to exposure to ionizing radiation, toxic metals, toxic chemicals, cell phones, cell phone towers and modern agricultural practices. Eating yin foods makes this health imbalance worse. For details, read Yin Disease.

OTHER TOXICITY

Some mushrooms contain other toxins causing them to be neurotoxic, hepatotoxic and more. Ingestion of some can be fatal. This makes them quite unfit to eat.

LOW NUTRITIONAL VALUE

Mushrooms are not a highly nutritious food. They are low in most vital nutrients. This makes them much less appealing as a development food. They are particularly low in magnesium, a mineral that everyone needs today.

ABSORB TOXIC METALS

Mushrooms have a tendency to absorb toxic metals. This is a very important reason to avoid eating them. For example, mushrooms from Europe may still contain radioactive iodine and other radioactive toxic metals from the Chernobyl nuclear accident, even though that accident occurred almost 40 years ago.

DIFFICULT TO IDENTIFY TOXIC VARIETIES

Some mushrooms are very toxic and it is not easy to identify these. Never ever just pick mushrooms in the woods and eat them!
