THE METABOLIC PACKS
(Multi-nutrient Formulas For The Oxidation Types)

ÒMetabolic PacksÓ is the name used by Endomet laboratories to describe several special nutrient formulas. These are recommended for different situations in regard to the oxidation types.
Dr. Paul C. Eck created these
formulas. They have undergone
minor revision as new research has been done on the formulas and on metabolic
types. However, they remain
essentially similar to his original concept.
The major products and their recommended uses are as follows:
1. Stress Pak. This is recommended when the oxidation rate is fast and the sodium-to-potassium ratio is above 2.5:1.
2. SBF Formula. This is recommended when the oxidation rate is fast and the sodium-to-potassium ratio is less than about 2.5:1.
3. Megapan. This is recommended for all slow oxidizers, regardless of the sodium/potassium ratio.
While these are proprietary products of Endomet Labs, it is important that everyone understood why they are given and why they are such excellent formulas. For the exact formulas, call Endomet Labs and ask for a catalog at 1-602-995-1580 or 1-800-528-4067 or the catalog is online at the laboratory website, www.arltma.com.
WHY METABOLIC PACKS?
Balancing the oxidation rate as we determine it using hair mineral analysis is a major part of all the nutrition programs we recommend. Therefore, it is essential to use products that will do this as well as possible.
While one could use a variety of individual supplementary nutrients or other methods to accomplish this end, the Metabolic Packs are the best way we have found to do this simply and inexpensively.
WHAT THE METABOLIC PACK DOES
The Metabolic Packs are able to assist the body to move to a more balanced rate of oxidation. Stress Pak, for example, helps slow down an excessively rapid oxidation rate. Meanwhile, Megapan will enhance a sluggish oxidation rate. In this way, they help balance the oxidation rate.
WHY NOT USE INDIVIDUAL NUTRIENTS
AND OTHER PRODUCTS?
Many ask why such products are needed. Why not just use familiar multi-vitamin-mineral products that are available easily in health food stores and through professional companies as well? Here are the reasons:
1. Such formulas will not be specific for correcting the oxidation rate. Therefore results are not nearly as good, in our experience.
2. If one attempts to match the Metabolic Packs from Endomet
Labs with a variety of nutrients or formulas, several problems arise:
a) Many more tablets or capsules are needed. This is especially true if one attempts to use only food-based vitamins and minerals, for example. This is more cumbersome for the patient.
b) More tablets increases the cost considerably in some cases.
c) The formulas are still hard to duplicate in this manner.
WHAT ABOUT SUBSTITUTING HERBAL
FORMULAS?
We love the idea of using only herbs. Indeed, this may become necessary if certain Codex laws that already exist in Europe and Asia are passed in the United States, limiting supplement potencies and in other ways seeking to destroy the nutritional supplement industry.
However, so far we have been unable and unwilling to try to duplicate the effects of these formulas with herbal products alone. While some herbs are in the formulas, they are carefully chosen for their contributions to the overall formula.
A few of the difficulties in using only herbs include:
1. Potencies vary greatly among herbal products, including such excellent ones as garlic and even kelp. This is a serious drawback to herbs today. One must be extremely careful about oneÕs sources and the processing used as well.
2. Many herbs are irradiated, even if they are not labeled. This can affect their potency and can introduce harmful items into the herbal formulas.
3. The potency of some of the nutrients such as vitamins A, B, C, D, E and others are difficult to duplicate with herbs alone, unless one used a large quantity, which is cumbersome or difficult and costly today.
The situation with herbs could change in the future, but for now the use of herbs not nearly as effective as the formulas as they stand.
HOW MANY TABLETS OF EACH ARE
RECOMMENDED?
This depends on how out of balance is the oxidation rate. Dr. EckÕs basic principle was that if the oxidation rate was fairly balanced, only one or two tablets of a Metabolic Pack would be suggested. If the oxidation rate was far from balanced, the number of tablets increased up to about 6 per day or two per meal.
While the computer at analytical Research Laboratories usually only recommends one per meal regardless of the oxidation rate today, this may change back to the way it was originally. Results are excellent as they are, but might be even better if the number of tablets were tailored even more exactly to the metabolic or oxidation rate of the patient.
This subject is currently being researched. The tradeoff is that more exact recommendations may give better results but are also more cumbersome to the patient and doctor. This article will be changed if needed depending on the outcome of this research and decisions at Analytical Research Labs.
For now, the standard adult dosage is one tablet of a Metabolic Pack three times daily with meals. For children, dosages should be reduced depending on the weight and age of the child. However, often children handle a larger amount of a Metabolic Pak than either their age or weight would dictate. This is important to remember for the best results with children.
Another variation can occur if the patient is obese or simply larger. If the patient is over about 200 pounds, it is best to add a tablet in many instances. This will enhance the effectiveness of the program for these individuals. The laboratory computer is not programmed to do this at this time, but perhaps will be in the future, as it can make a significant difference in a few cases.
