In nutritional balancing science, and often in life, a simple cause-and-effect model of how events occur is not sufficient. This model of how things occur is too linear and does not take into account multiple factors, and the ways or permutations they can have as they come together.
We see the problem of the cause-effect model when interpreting hair mineral tests, for example. One must take into account not one or two, but at least 20 mineral levels, plus 3 or 4 mineral ratios, and another 5-15 patterns. All of these contribute to symptoms, feelings, or other aspects of human functioning. It is simply not possible to say that A caused B, which resulted in C.
THE CONFLUENCE MODEL OF THE UNIVERSE
A better way to understand complex whole system events is that of confluence. The first syllable, con, means with in Latin. The second part of the word is like the word influence.
So the whole word means a coming together of a number of forces or influences. It is somewhat similar to the word conspiracy, which means the coming together of a number of people or ideas.
CONFLUENCE IS SIMILAR TO A VECTOR CONCEPT
Confluence is multi-directional, multi-factorial, and multi-dimensional. The closest concept for understanding it in a simple way is the idea of vectors. These are represented as lines with arrows at one end that can point in many directions, and can be of differing lengths, representing the amount of force or effect a particular vector has. This is part of vector mathematics, a more advanced science. It is not hard to imagine a set of arrows that come together and produce an effect that is a sum or a result of all the vectors. This is the basic idea of confluence. This may make it easier to interpret a hair analysis, or even to understand world events.
