DEFINITION

Collagen is a simple structural protein found in all animals and humans. It consists mainly of three amino acids, glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. These are considered non-essential amino acids.

PROBLEMS WITH COLLAGEN

Some nutrition consultants are recommending collagen to people. We consider these people malicious and their advice harmful. Problems with collagen are:

- It is quite yin in macrobiotic terminology. All amino acid products are more yin. This is quite harmful today because the bodies are all already yin. Therefore, eating collagen tends to further unbalance the body, no matter what other benefits if may have.

- It is not very nutritious and not needed. The three amino acids that make up most collagen are non-essential. This means that one need not eat them. The body can synthesize them from other amino acids.

We believe that those who recommend collagen supplements are purposely giving wrong advice and are not interested in your health.

We suggest to stay away from collagen supplements and from anyone who suggests them.
