We are here to learn lessons, which results in development.  This article includes:

1. Kinds of lessons.

2. Stages of learning lessons.

3. Speed of learning lessons.

I. KINDS OF LESSONS

1. SURVIVAL.  These are lessons all about staying alive.  They involve what to eat, how to stay warm, where to live, and the basics of how the body works and how to care for it.  These lessons have to do with the self, not with others.

2. RIGHT SPIN.  These lessons have to do with oneÕs daily activities such as work, sex, play, family activities and others.  They involve movement of the body and brain in space and time.

3. POWER AND CONTROL.  These lessons build on the previous ones and have to do with controlling the body, brain, emotions and thoughts in fairly simple ways.

4. SOCIAL LEVEL.  This level of lessons, and all those beyond it, have to do with lessons involving others.  This is the most basic level of this, and has to do with friendships, business relationships and other social interactions.  It is learning about give and take and social interaction.

5. TEAMWORK.  This level of lessons continues those of #4 above.  It is more focused on working together with others for a goal or purpose.  It also has to do with lessons about creativity and inventiveness.

6. BREADTH AND DEPTH.  This level of lessons continues from the one before it.  It add intensity or depth to the process of lessons with others.  It also has to do with getting a much deeper understanding of lessons and of whatever you are working on.  It could also involve more people, larger projects, and having more impact in the world.

7. CULMINATION.  This level of lessons integrates and includes all the previous levels.  These are lessons about integrity, wholeness, inclusiveness, oneness, spiritual values, and more.

II. LEVELS OF LEARNING LESSONS

1. DIM AWARENESS.  At this early stage, a person is fairly clueless about the lessons he or she is learning.  Babies and children are often at this stage.

2. A FEELING LEVEL.  At this stage of understanding lessons, a person has feelings about things that can be quite accurate.  However, there is little intellectual understanding, so the lessons are not learned too well.

3. BASIC INTELLECTUAL UNDERSTANDING.  Now a person has a grasp of what is to be learned, and begins to control his or her behavior better.

4. LIVING IT, A LITTLE.  Here, for the first time, a person is living the lessons he or she learns, in the larger world.  However, one is not too consistent about it.  It is more of a now and then, push and pull, give and take situation.  For example, one might eat some excellent quality food, but one might then eat some poor quality food Òfor balanceÓ or for some other reason.

5. LIVING IT MORE.  This is a continuation of stage #4 above.  Now a person is living the lessons he or she learns more consistently and more faithfully than before.  Life becomes more ordered and more creative, as a result.  Development proceeds faster, and does so more the further one progresses through these stages of learning lessons.

6. DEEP UNDERSTANDING.  At this stage, a person delve more deeply into his or her lessons to understand them more thoroughly so that one can live them better.  One gains more perspective about the lessons, as well.

7. FULLNESS AND THE BEST DEMONSTRATION OF THE LESSONS.  This is a culmination of all the other stages, with integration, integrity and full demonstration of the lessons, proving that one really knows and understands them.  Think of the phrase, ÒKnowing is demonstratingÓ.

III. SPEED OF LEARNING LESSONS

1. VERY SLOW.  This is unfortunately common.  The reason is lack of understanding about the lessons, distraction, immaturity, and perhaps malnutrition, poor physical health, mental impairment, or other reasons.  One is not focused on learning lessons, so the process moves ahead very slowly.

2. SOME ACTION.  At this stage, there is more focus on learning lessons.  As a result, the process moves along faster.  One is more capable of testing hypotheses, remembering experiences, and more mental activity.

3. BETTER CONTROL.  This is a continuation of the previous stage.  OneÕs mental control improves, along with better understanding of what needs to be learned.

4. FASTER LEARNING.  Each stage from here on brings greater perspective and experience with others, which enhances learning speed.

5. STILL FASTER LEARNING.  Working more closely with others facilitates learning lessons faster at this stage.

6. EVEN BETTER.  At this stage, learning lessons is enhanced by much more understanding.

7. BEST SPEED.  This is a culmination of the other stages, with the best understanding and integration of all the previous stages.
