CHOCOLATE OR CACAO – ITS PROBLEMS

Some holistic doctors and nutritionists recommend eating cacao or dark chocolate. The reason is that it contains anti-oxidant nutrients, and a few other nutrient substances such as copper and magnesium.
We do not recommend chocolate or cacao because it is not that nutritious, it is quite yin in macrobiotic terms, and it is somewhat toxic. For example it contains caffeine and theobromine, a toxic compound related to caffeine. This can cause nervousness, sleep problems, and other symptoms.
Just one ounce of dark chocolate contains about 13 grams of sugar and about 156 calories. Sugar is one of the worst things to eat, and the calories in chocolate fill you us without providing much nutrition. Eating chocolate is also associated with gastric reflux disease or GERD.
Chocolate is certainly not a necessary food and it is best to avoid it. If you must have a little, keep the amount small, such as a chocolate chip or two, and have it only occasionally.
