Some are worried about a possible swine flu epidemic.  It has already claimed a few lives and this winter it could get worse.  Here are some ideas for preventing and caring for any influenza case.  The suggestions below are not meant as treatments for the flue, but will support the body as it heals itself naturally.  Visit a competent health practitioner if you are unsure what to do.

The flu is an opportunist bug.  Before discussing how to handle the flu, some general comments are in order.  Influenza has been with humanity for as long as people have been on planet earth.  Therefore, our bodies have quite a lot of experience with it.  Most flu strains are benign and are what are called Òopportunistic organismsÓ.  This means that if one is healthy, the flu virus either is not going to attack at all, or, if it does, it will be a mild cold or something similar, and nothing to be concerned about.

However, if the body is weakened in any way, then the flu can be a vicious illness, causing extreme fatigue, digestive upset, diarrhea, headache, respiratory problems and many others.  When it causes death, it is usually due to a secondary infection such as pneumonia on top of the flu that impairs respiration to the point that the person cannot breathe well enough.  The goal, therefore, is to keep yourself healthy and you will not need to worry about any type of flu, or most other illnesses, for that matter.

PREVENTION

Simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your family this winter, especially if a flu outbreak occurs, include:

á             Stay away from crowds, especially in closed spaces such as auditoriums, stadiums, aircraft, crowded restaurants and even churches, if needed.

á             Wash you hands often, especially when out in the public.

á             Rest more.  Make sure you obtain eight or more hours of actual sleep every single night.  This means going to bed early and allowing an extra half hour or more to fall asleep so you obtain enough actual sleep.  Children and teens need even more rest and sleep every night.

á             Maintain an excellent diet and lifestyle.  This means to eat many cooked vegetables twice daily.  Also have a little animal protein every day.  Avoid all wheat, avoid all pig products and minimize beef consumption, as these are less healthful foods today.  Also avoid all sugars, most fruit and all fruit juices.  These are too sweet and not helpful for health.  I know that many doctors like fruit, but I donÕt recommend it except for an occasional dessert or snack.

á             Drink about 3 quarts or more of either spring or distilled water each day.  Children will need less.

á             Everyone should have 4 to 6 ounces of carrot juice each day.  Fresh is best, but even buying the carrot juice at the store and keeping it a few days is okay.

á             If possible, use a near infrared sauna on a daily basis.  This has many health benefits, including detoxifying the body and increasing your resistance to many types of infections.

á             Do foot reflexology every day.  You donÕt need special training, though it is wonderful to take a class in this or read one of the many books about it that are available.  Basically, one rubs each foot all over, including the toes, the top, bottom, sides and heel area of the foot.  Any area that is tender or painful, rub some more and usually the tenderness will go away.  This balances the acupuncture meridians, often induces sleep and is generally helpful for oneÕs vitality.

á             Basic supplements everyone can take include about 3 500 mg kelp capsules daily, 4000 iu of vitamin D, 20,000 iu of vitamin A, about 1000 mg of vitamin C and about 10 mg of zinc.  A teaspoon or a few capsules of omega-3 fatty acids are also needed by everyone today.  This is not precise, but is okay for most people.

SAFE, NATURAL TREATMENTS FOR THE FLU

At the first sign of any cold or flu, a few simple measures can hasten recovery and prevent complications:

á             Keep drinking enough fluids, especially if you have a fever.  Mild teas or distilled or spring water are the only beverages that count.

á             Rest a lot more.  Stay home from work or school.  Preferably stay in bed if you are very ill.

á             Eat lightly of mostly vegetables that are steamed or cooked lightly.  Four-six ounces of carrot juice or wheat grass juice or other vegetable juice would be fine.

á             A simple, but powerful therapy is to buy a 250-watt, reddish Òheat lampÓ at a hardware store or Home Depot.  Also buy a clamp-on socket for this bulb.  Set it up so that the bulb shines on your thymus gland, which is at the level of the breast bone, above the level of the nipples.  Take your shirt off so it shines directly on the skin.  Use this for at least 20 minutes every hour or two all day long.  The lamp can also be shined on any area of the body that is infected, such as the sinuses, an ear, the throat, bronchials, lungs or other locations.  A few cautions with the lamp are 1) do not stare at the light, though it is probably very safe, 2) be careful with it, as the bulb gets extremely hot.  Move it as close to your thymus or elsewhere as you can tolerate, but do not touch it or allow yourself to be burned, 3) do not shine it on any area of the head for more than 10 minutes at a time in one hour.  Too much infrared on the head is not healthful.

á             Take the following supplements:

Zinc lozenges – about 3 per day, each with about 20 mg of zinc.

About 120,000 iu daily of vitamin A.

About 4000 mg daily of vitamin or less if you get diarrhea.

About 6 capsules or more of echinacea, or several cups of echinacea tea.  Another herb that is helpful is astragalus.  Several others may be used as well such as golden seal, lomatium and others, though these are somewhat toxic.

If symptoms persists for more than a day or two, add 2-3 tablespoons of a high-quality colloidal silver.  Take it 15 minutes away from all food and all beverages, both before and afterwards, for best utilization.

6 capsules daily of bee propolis.  If in a liquid form, about 15-30 drops several times daily.

á             For a high fever: A fever under 103 F. or even a little higher is fine and should not be lowered in any way.  It helps the body fight infection, even if it does not feel good.  If the temperature rises higher, preferably use natural methods to lower it: 1) sponging with cool water or alcohol.  Alcohol will cool a person down faster, but is somewhat irritating to the skin, 2) get in a bath and slowly add cooler water.  Be careful to get out if you become chilled.  A baby can even be placed in a smaller wash basin and cool water added very slowly and gently. 3) Take a coffee enema or colonic irrigation.  All these methods will be temporary if the body is fighting an infection very hard, so they can be repeated every few hours as needed to keep a fever below about 104 F.

For extreme illness: If respiratory complications have set in and life is threatened, three other treatments that are not as simple, but will usually stop the virus are:

á             Intravenous vitamin C in high doses, up to 100 grams daily of even more.  This will stop all viral infections according to Drs. Fred Klenner, Thomas Levy and others.

á             Ultraviolet blood irradiation.  This requires someone trained in it, but it is also excellent and very safe.

á             MMS or Miracle Mineral Supplement.  This is a simple home remedy available through the internet.  I have less experience with it, but it might help.

PHYSICAL HEALING METHODS FOR FLUS

In addition to the above, other superb methods of healing include fever therapy.  Heating up your body a few degrees helps weaken or kill many types of bacteria or viruses.  Ways to do this are 1) in a sauna, 2) wrapped in warm blankets or 3) in a hot bath, in that order of preference.  For a more intense experience, before you heat your body and sweat, drink a cup of very hot warming tea such as a ginger or other tea.  Then follow the instructions below:

1) Sauna therapy.  The best sauna in my experience is a near infrared light sauna.  If this is not available, the next best is a far infrared type or a traditional sauna.  Use it for 10-20 minutes at a time, 4 to 6 times daily.  Do not become too weakened by it.  If you start to feel very faint, get out of the sauna and lay down and rest for half an hour.  Longer sauna sessions are usually not helpful when one is ill.  Do not put any children in saunas who are under the age of 5, and be sure to drink plenty of extra water before and after using a sauna.

2) Warm blankets.  If you do not have access to a sauna, you may first wrap yourself in a bed sheet.  Then have someone else, preferably, wrap you up tightly in warm blankets in a warm room.  This will also cause sweating.  Do this for at least an hour or two and you should sweat heavily.

3) A hot bath. This method is somewhat less recommended because of the chemicals in the tap water.  However, you could soak in a very hot bath for about half an hour daily to sweat as well.  Once again, do not allow yourself to become too debilitated by the heat.  Rest laying down afterwards.

Coffee enemas and colonic irrigation.  These can also be superb for any illness.  They will temporarily lower a high fever, keep the bowels open, and remove toxic material through the liver and colon.  A colonic irrigation can be done each day and 2 or 3 coffee enemas could be done each day for a very severe flu condition.  Complete instructions for a coffee enema are at www.drlwilson.com.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BABIES AND YOUNG CHILDREN WITH THE FLU:

á             Babies and children can dehydrate faster than adults.  Be sure they drink enough water or tea.  In addition to water or mild teas, chicken soup or a little carrot juice are okay, up to 4 ounces of carrot juice daily.  Do not do more carrot juice and do not use fruit juices or milk.  The extra sugar and other components are not helpful in some cases.

á             Do not feed children much milk or even much food when they are ill unless they are very hungry.  Most will not be hungry and it is best not to feed them much food unless they seem very hungry and request it.

á             Allow a fever to rise as long as they are under 103-104 F., or less if a child is having difficulty.  Babies can mount a higher fever than adults.  Keep checking it and reduce it naturally with the methods above if it rises above about 103 F.  Babies and children can develop seizures if a fever rises too high.  This is not terrible, but can usually be avoided.  Do not give children drugs, in my view, to lower fevers or for any other reason.  Instead, use the natural methods in this article to lower fever such as sponge baths or an enema.

á             A reddish heat lamp shined on the thymus can be excellent for babies and children.  Use it for no more than 5 minutes at a time every hour or so.  Do not shine the light in the babyÕs eyes.

á             Do not use a sauna with a child under age 5.

á             If a baby or young child is throwing up and cannot drink water, it is imperative to rehydrate the child in other ways.  At home one can have the child sip water and absorb it in the mouth, or even suck on a wet sponge or rag to absorb water.  Another method is using a bath.  Another is using an enema.  All these can work well.  If none are possible, then intravenous fluids are needed.  Use saline, not a sugar (dextrose) solution as is often done at the hospitals.

Vaccines.  This is a personal decision.  However, I do not recommend any flu vaccines or flu shots.  Reasons are :

á             The swine flu is untested because they were in a hurry to produce it.

á             The vaccine contains toxic materials such as preservatives and is likely contaminated with other viruses, as well.  During the 1976 flu epidemic, more people were harmed by the flu vaccine than were harmed by the flu itself.

á             The swine flu vaccine can cause severe neurological Òside effectsÓ that can permanently maim or kill.

á             It probably doesnÕt work that well.  See www.mercola.com for more information about the swine flu vaccine.  The truth is quite shocking and disgusting.

For other symptoms:

Cough – drink warm tea with a little honey or maple syrup may calm the throat.

Sinus or nasal congestion – gargling and sniffing salt water up the nose can be extremely helpful.  It kills many germs and is very safe.  Be careful with commercial nasal sprays as they are not very safe.  Eucalyptus oil or a product such as Vicks Vaporub can help open the nasal passages and the bronchials in some cases and is quite safe.  A little dab of VickÕs under each nostril may easing breathing through the nose.

Diarrhea – Drink more water or tea to replenish fluids.  Colloidal silver may help kill infection in the intestines.  If diarrhea is due to taking an antibiotic, try taking some live culture yogurt or acidophilus such as Bio-K in the health food store to help restore the natural flora.  Diarrhea that persists is a serious symptom that can cause mineral imbalances.  See a competent health practitioner if it persists more than a few days.

Warning: These simple methods work in almost all cases.  They are also very inexpensive and can keep a person out of the hospital.  However, if the methods above are not working, or you do not know what to do, see a competent health professional.
